John Sevier Middle School's Seaver Named Tennessee National Outstanding Assistant Principal

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Dr. Melissa Seaver, John Sevier Middle School Assistant Principal, has been named the 2024 Tennessee National Outstanding Assistant Principal by the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP).

NAESP is committed to supporting elementary and middle-level assistant principals and part of that commitment is recognizing assistant principals for their contributions to their school communities.

"Dr. Seaver is not only a wonderful asset to the administrative team at Sevier Middle School, but also an exemplary leader whose dedication and passion shine brightly in her support for students and educators,” said Dr. Kyle Loudermilk, Sevier Middle School Principal. “Her commitment to fostering a positive learning environment and promoting academic excellence has earned her the utmost respect from her colleagues. We proudly celebrate Dr. Seaver's well-deserved recognition as a National Outstanding Assistant Principal, a testament to her remarkable contributions to our school community.

"I am deeply humbled and immensely grateful to be recognized as the recipient of the NAESP Tennessee National Outstanding Assistant Principal Award," said Dr. Seaver. "My journey in Kingsport City Schools has been nothing short of transformative and I am honored to have the opportunity to contribute to Sevier Middle School and our school community."

Dr. Seaver previously served for two years as associate principal at Jackson Elementary School within Kingsport City Schools. With 18 years of experience at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, she brings a wealth of expertise to her current position. Her tenure in education reflects her dedication to the growth and development of both students and faculty. She earned her Ed.D. from the University of the Cumberlands.

Each year, NAESP recognizes a new class of National Outstanding Assistant Principals. Public school elementary and middle-level assistant principals are nominated by peers in their state and final selections are made by committees appointed by each of NAESP’s state affiliate offices. Criteria established by NAESP requires that the individual:

  • Is a practicing assistant principal with at least two years of experience in the role.
