Math 8 Syllabus
Course Description:
Welcome to Math 8! This grade level course prepares students to enter Algebra 1 in high school.
Course Units:
This school year, you will study the following chapters. At the conclusion of each unit, a summative assessment will be administered.
Chapter 1 - Equations
Chapter 2 - Transformations
Chapter 3 - Angles and Triangles
Chapter 4 - Graphing and Writing Linear Equations and Inequalities
Chapter 5 - Probability, Data Analysis, and Displays
Chapter 6 - Functions
Chapter 7 - Exponents and Scientific Notation
Chapter 8 - Real Numbers and the Pythagorean Theorem
Chapter 9 - Volume and Similar Solids
Task Arc - Solving Linear Equations in One Variable
Task Arc - System of Linear Equations
Additional Geometry
Assessment/Evaluation:
In Math 8, you will have the chance to participate in a lot of challenging activities as well as review and maintain the skills you learned in Math 7. Some of those activities will be opportunities for you to demonstrate what you have learned and will be graded. These activities include projects, homework, quizzes, in class assignments and tests.
Re-Takes/Extra Credit:
Learning the skills and knowledge of a mathematician is essential if you wish to be successful in future mathematics courses. Tutoring is available through the school and can be arranged with your teacher. Re-takes will only be given at the discretion of the teacher.
Grading Requirements:
The weight of the various assessments is distributed as follows:
Tests: 50%
Quizzes & Projects: 30%
Classwork/Homework: 20%

Assignments, grades and due dates can be accessed on each teacher’s page on Aspen. Parents can access Aspen by going to k12k.com and using the drop down menu underneath the Student tab. Choose the Aspen link and sign in.
