Kingsport City Schools Names Shively as KCS Athletic Director

KINGSPORT, Tenn.Kingsport City Schools has named Larry Shively as KCS Athletic Director. Shively will be responsible for the oversight, coordination, and direction of all district athletic programming.

“We are excited that Larry will bring his extensive athletic experience and passion to this leadership role for Kingsport City Schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Lyle Ailshie.  “In selecting an individual to oversee not only Dobyns-Bennett High School athletics, but also guide athletic programming for the entire district, it was critical to find the person with the right combination of knowledge, skill, desire, and innovation.  As a D-B graduate with a long history of athletic leadership and a strong desire to take our programs to the next level, we feel that Larry is the right individual for this exciting task and will unify our entire community around the vision of having a world-class athletic program.”

Shively is a 1992 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett and obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in history from the University of Tennessee in 1997. He earned his Master of Secondary Education degree from Milligan College in 1998.  During his 19-year career as a social studies and history teacher, he has also served as an assistant football and baseball coach at Shelbyville Central High School, assistant football and baseball coach at Science Hill High School, and head football coach at Happy Valley High School. Most recently, Shively has taught U.S. History and Government and served as an assistant football coach at Dobyns-Bennett.

Shively and his wife Misty, have two children, Sara and Trey.
