Description: 

Algebra 1 increases student awareness of the importance of mathematics in the modern world. Students will learn how to think systematically and use the precise logic required for mathematical problem solving. The use of appropriate technology will further develop understanding of abstract mathematical ideas. The concepts emphasized in the course include:

Unit 2 - Solving Linear Inequalities (Aug 30 - Sept 14)

Unit 3 - Graphing Linear Functions (Sept 18 - Oct 25) 

Unit 4 - Writing Linear Functions (Oct 26 - Nov 15)

Unit 5 - Solving Systems of Linear Equations (Nov 16 - Dec 12)

Unit 6 - Exponential Functions and Sequences (Dec 13 - Jan 26)

Unit 7 - Polynomial Equations and Factoring (Jan 29 - Feb 23)

Unit 8 - Graphing Quadratic Functions (Feb 26 - Mar 15)

Unit 9 - Solving Quadratic Equations (Mar 18 - Apr 10)

Unit 10 - Data Analysis and Displays (Apr 11 - Apr 26)

Grade 8 Unit 8 - Real numbers and the Pythagorean Theorem (Apr 29 - May 7)

Successful completion of this course is an indispensable step in preparation for geometry, more advanced algebra, trigonometry, and advanced mathematics. 

Grading Requirements: 9 Weeks Average 

Tests 50% 

Quizzes 30% 

Homework/Classwork 20% 

Assessments/Evaluation: Students will be engaged in a variety of activities, including tests and quizzes (includes online assessments), homework, lesson notes, starters, projects, and End of Course Test. No test corrections or extra credit will be given. 

The TN Ready EOC test will be administered in the Spring at a determined date. Students who maintain an 85 or higher yearly average in seventh or eighth grade algebra should be recommended for high school geometry.
